Abstract
Fundamental Sources of Archetypal Criticism
Archetypal criticism is a literary theory that develops depending on the analytic psychosis of Carl Gustav Jung and sees literature as the expression of archetypal symbols. According to Jung, archetypes are the foundations of the psyche building. Archetypes reveal themselves through symbol language. The theorist must master the grammar of these symbols. Just before Jung, James G. Frazer, and after him, researchers such as Joseph Campbell, Northop Frye, and Mircae Eliade showed how to do this with their inspiring works. In this study, what archetypal criticism is within the framework of the works of the aforementioned researchers and its first sources will be emphasized.
